Talibanization of Norway:

The Norwegian authorities have taken away two children (Avigyan: 2 years and Aishwarya: 4 months) of an Indian couple, and have kept the kids separate from their parents for 8 months now. Their crime, kids were sleeping in the same bed as parents, and parents were feeding the kids with their hands. They told that the children won’t be allowed to return to the parents till they turn 18.

The issue was discussed on NDTV, and even Indian government intervened, without any positive outcome. The father Anurup Bhattacharya is a senior Geologist from BHU and is working in Oslo. He told that it is inconceivable that children can be kidnapped this way in a civilized society. Mother Sagarika Bhattacharya was a housewife in Norway. The couple has asked for help, that they want to return back to India as soon as possible with their kids.

This is racism, because they are unable to comprehend and respect culture of a different origin. This is undemocratic, as they are now allowing people to live their own life inside their own house that doesn’t harm anybody. And this is barbaric and inhuman, since you are taking away kids so young from responsible parents who love their children.

Please help raising voice to support the parents to get back their kids as early as possible. UN must step in. The Indian government must exercise more pressure on the Norwegian government. To me, this is a case of forced kidnapping of Indian nationals by a foreign organization, and should be treated with accordingly.

It's important to raise a strong collective voice, not only for the couple who should surely get back their kids, but also to give a firm statement to all the government agents of other countries, who are blind with their conviction of white supremacy, or else, tomorrow it can be someone else's children getting abducted in a similar fashion, in some other parts of this globe.

Dear Sourav,

This controversy has to draw in all the parents! And it has done so already, going by the debates I have seen in the comments section of UK newspapers, because "Attachment Parenting" advocated by Dr. Sears and AP Intl., is already catching on in the US and UK. Many papers are coming in every year showing the benefits of bed-sharing.

While some local people in the know have expressed rumors about the couple slapping the kids, the boy banging his head in KG school (signifying some psychological or neurological problem) and the mother force feeding solids to the then 4 month old baby, the fact remains that the first step should have been parental counseling, and especially so if it was determined that the boy is a special needs child. The solution can never be separation from the biological parents! And while they have quoted lack of attachment with parents, do they mean the foster parents will manage to become more attached?

As you can see here: http://bit.ly/yJ0W9S, there are some studies by Christiansen and Anderssen on the child welfare department of Norway, and they have concluded that in reference to the moving of children to foster care by Norwegian child welfare services:

1- Definitions of child abuse, neglect and antisocial behavior depend on time and place. It is a very subjective decision.
2- Many child welfare workers lacking professional competence in proportion to their tasks end up relying on their own moral opinions.
3- There is significant work load on the social workers, which combined with lack of guidelines for how the challenge of assessments should be solved, leads to the child welfare workers having a great deal of discretionary freedom

So, in case there is a social worker who is insular in his personal opinions, it is possible to have an over reaction to even the minor things the media is talking about, like feeding with hands and co sleeping. But whatever the case, since there is no sexual abuse, drug abuse, alcoholism, or domestic violence involved, I think separating the child from his biological parents is an illogical, inhuman, cruel, and psychologically traumatizing action.

Sorry but the problem with most Indians is - they want to migrate to another country but don't want to learn, understand or accept and adopt the host country's way of life. There are problems here with both parties - Norway is a cold culture, a police state with tightly controlled laws and civil behaviour - so if someone sees you sleeping in the same bed with a 2 year old kid - they will think differently as it would be seen in India. However even in India - there are millions of cases of perverted stories of child abuse, child sex, child marriage, female infanticide and god knows how many thousands of cases of men raping their daughters or sexually abusing their young sons..most of which goes unreported or even un-noticed but it happens a lot in India. Paedophilia is not just a western concept - if I remember correctly few years ago a Delhi businessman was arrested after they found more than 40 skeletons of children burried and hidden in his house - all kids he had sexually molested and then killed and eaten up their flesh as well - why doesn't anyone discuss these issues in India on an Indian forum like this one here? Is there really more injustice in Norway than there is in India? There may be social problems in Norway due to the strict laws and cold culture but India has much bigger and worse problems to deal with lets face it please.

When in Rome - do as the romans do - this is what Indians should try to understand, I see them all the time behaving differently and creating such a bad image of India in western countries - it is the responsibility of a migrant to learn and understand as well as adapt a country's culture if they want to live in that country. If they want to just earn money even then while they are "residing" in another country it is their duty to learn and understand all the laws clearly. Sorry I don't believe for a second that this is some secret attempt by Norway's government to kidnap 2 Indian kids and force them to be norweigian citizens because their own population is declining...lol that is totally ridiculous. They were just being very careful - and there is an obsession with child safety in the west - especially those kind of police state countries....there is also a lot of mental sickness in the west but it's there in the east as well... in western countries they have better ways to document and catch these problems - this is the entire point of living in an advanced progressive society.

Personally - I don't think it is healthy or normal to feed a kid with your bare hands - especially if you wash your shit with those hands and the child's shit as well. And I also don't think it is normal to sleep in the same bed as your child - even if your intentions are good - there are times when people do things in their sleep or in a state of sleep that they do not remember later or understand exactly what happened... it is very possibly a child can suffer sexual abuse in this way and neither the child or parent understands or recognizes it until much later when the child grows up and is haunted by this forever.... there are again many many such examples of this going on especially in Indian society where people prefer to keep QUIET about such issues rather than openly discuss them.

I don't think the Norway government was unjustified in taking these kids away - any sensible government would do it - if India's government CARED the same way for Indian citizens then they would do it too...but India's government is too busy with corruption to care. I think the Idea of a grown up man sleeping with his 2 year old son and petting him at night is disgusting - even if the guy doesn't realize this, the kid can have serious repercussions later in life.
