Beginners, if you have any problem following the discussion, you can post that here. What you think, where you are having any problem, etc.
That way we could try to find a solution to help you out.
I thought it's better to start a different thread for the problems that the beginners are facing, that way we can keep the discussions cleaner.
Probably that way we can use this thread to discuss our problem, and the other thread "french learning" just to learn and relevant discussions. _________________ Request | Rules

| Sry for being a late entry. It has been just 2 weeks for me in Paris.I can understand a bit of written but cannot understand a word when someone speaks. Does someone has an advice on how to improve on listening or speaking french? |
I didn't want to reply there, as in that thread I wanted to remain as a student, so here I'm telling what I think. Amrish, as Alicia has told, watch a lot of french TV, and be with the french people. At the beginning you won't understand a single word probably, but keep doing that, and in three months you will be operational for a minimum conversation, as I did.
If you don't have access to french TV, there's a section in this site (see at the top - link TV) with different TV channels, where I've put links to a couple of french TV. You may start from there _________________ Request | Rules

I stay in Paris, but I am going to move to Versailles next month. Anju I never took any French lessons till now and everybody around me speak so good english that I never had to or got the opportunity to learn any French, so I dont know any French except for the salutations , so i think we are in the same boat |

| i agree with sourav. in one of his earlier posts, he had mentioned the importance of keep watching french television (even if we cannot understand a thing in the beginning) me too, i studied from alliance francaise de bombay and it is called the method of immersion - in which we let the language seep into you. we had to listen to french songs/videos etc and slowly, we started speaking and using the words and expressions in our conversations. grammar and all that is no doubt important, but don't break your head or lose your sleep over it i would say. just try and make sure you communicate confidently. cheers! babsrock@hotmail.com |

I wonder if radio is not even better than television...
On TV you will often come across movies or shows in which actors or presenters speak very fast and in a slangy way. And images might distract your attention.
Radio presenters often speak more clearly, and you can really focus on the words without being distracted by images. Try it for example with France Info (non-stop information), it may be a good exercise. |
