Hi guys

So, the forum is up now. Though please note that this is not going to be a forum only site. This is rather going to be part of a bigger website that I have planned to develop soon.

Also note that the design of the forum will be changed later as the site will be ready, so they match and look similar. For the moment, this is phpBB's default look.

Thanks for visiting the site. I hope this site will be useful to all the Indian students and expats visiting France. I know how tough it is to get proper information at times, especially when the country is new and the language is alien.

Feel free to ask your question by going to proper forum. I will try my best to help you out. If you don't get an immediate reply, please don't panic. i means either I'm too busy for the moment, or I don't have the answer immediately and searching for that, or simply I'm not in the station. I will try to be online everyday from 7 to 8 pm local time / or between 10 to 11 pm local time.

Today is the 9th day since I purchased the domain name and started to put things in place.

I just checked, it's already listed in the 5th place (1st page) of Google for the search phrase Indians in France Smile

(out of about 2,540,000 results)

For those who do SEO works, know that it's a formidable and almost unbelievable acheivement, considering that there are sites that takes years to come to the first page of Google, and 99.999% sites never make it to the 1st page of google in their life time Wink

... but then, those sites are not maintained by a guy called Sourav ... eh Laughing

For information, as you guys know, this site is still under development, and I'm taking your suggestions to make it better and better. New ideas are coming up. Hence, there may be changes now and then, for the look and for functionalities.

New function added. Now users can change their username. Smile

However, one note on changing username. Please take care that you choose well your username. In the future as the site develops I have a plan to offer free multipage non-commercial websites to members of this site (it's just a plan for the moment, so no time limit, and no guarantee). It would be like a blog where you can update texts and images, but better arranged, like a real website.

And if that happens, the address of your website would be username.indiansinfrance.com I hope. Ex. if the personal site is for me, the address would be sourav.indiansinfrance.com Smile

So please take care of that while choosing your username (something that you would like to see in the domain name of your personal site as well).

Something new added ... you can now embed youtube videos directly inside a post, coming with a brand new text area where you type your text ... Very Happy

Update: Deleted the forum "Bollywood and online cricket" and moved all it's topics to "General chat" since I am trying to find ways to decrease the number of forums in the front page following your suggestions and also thought that they can very well sit together ... Smile

Dhruv suggested once that the forum was getting too stretched vertically. Naresh was also telling me that it's not so convenient to go down scrolling so far.

At the same time, Ankit and Naveen were ready to take charge of the Lille and Toulouse groups and hence it was important for me to give them the same services that we are having for the Paris group.

But adding more forums in an already stretched ones could be unfriendly for the users. So I adapted the forum a bit, by adding some sub forums in a few places. That way, there will be one city related main forum, and a few sub forums related to that city.

Adding sub forums was not easy, I had to change quite a lot (the structure of the site, code wise), so I thought since the tool is now there, why not to add the sub forums in some other places as well. Smile

So guys, now you will see some sub forums in the site. Smile

Just added an event management system ... it's a very big add-on, so will need to test it well ...

By this new system, we can now create new events, and users can give their RSVP and comments. Members can come alone or with guests.

Update: Deleted the forum "Racism" as after having a discussion with Anju we thought that this can possibly bring some bad taste to the forum ... two of the threads of that forum that were started by Anju has been moved to "General Chat" and the rest (that were started by me) is deleted along with the forum. Thanks for sharing, Anju. Very Happy

Now you can directly add pictures into posts from your computer's hard disk. Just click on the link UploadPic while posting and follow instructions.

Two new sections are created, our photos and our videos - two albums with respective contents. Links are available in the first line, at the end. The idea came when I was speaking yesterday with Sandeep, over telephone.

Idea is to group together community photos and videos in their own dedicated sections, so that -

1. We can send links of these two sections to our friends easily.
2. We can ourselves get things grouped and organized in one place, to come and enjoy them later.

At this moment, I'm doing that manually, and we don't have an option to add photos and videos to their respected albums directly. So members can keep adding photos and videos in the posts as they are doing now, and I will later add them to the albums.

I do have a plan to add that functionality, in the future, so that users themselves can add event photos and videos directly to the albums.
