hi. i am an indian wishing to marry a french man. i read and reread your posts. so finally when i went to the indian embassy in france i was disappointed because they asked me for a carte de sejour when i asked for the certificat de coutume.but i cant have a carte de sejour unless i am on a student or work visa. the two are not possible for me.at the moment i am on a tourist visa.
so is the carte de sejour something necessary in order to obtain a certificat de coutume?? because it has not been mentioned in any post or any thread on the net.
the people at the indian embassy have been extremely unhelpful. basically they advised me not to get married!!
i would appreciate your help.
merci d'avance. |

Hi Everyone
I am planning to go to paris in few days to get Certificat de coutume from the embassy. It would be great if someone who has done the same can give me some input:
Is there any application form to be filled (is it online??)
Documents to take with me to embassy?
Is the certificate given by embassy in French or english?? (This will help to plan as i have already done all the others documents translated , only this certificate is remaining)
Any other think to keep in mind.
A rapid anwser would be great as i am running out on time.. :p my indian birth certificate will be older than 6 month in october :p
Thanks

Dear All,
My boyfriend is Indian and I am French, we are both living in Dubai and planning our Wedding for next August in South of France( a tiny village) then in October in Mumbai!
I have few questions in regards to the paper work:
1/ Fot the birth certificate, I guess we will claim that he missplaced his to obtain a new one, less than 6 month beofre our wedding however, where can we get it officially transalted? Does the transalted version need to be apostille or the Indian one?
2/ For the certificat de Celibat, my boyfriend does not have his parents anymore....did anyone faced a similar situation?
3/ For the certificat de coutume, the embassy in Dubai does not seems to know what it is hence, I am planning to request it to the Indian embassy in France, would it be possible as he is not resident of France? Same question than for the birth certificate: where can we get it officially transalted? Does the transalted version need to be apostille or the Indian one?
We will have very limited time in France prior the wedding, will most probably have to fly to India before to get the birth certificate so trying to get it all right to avoid so many up and down.
Thanks in advance for your reply. |

| Well we would like to get married in my parents house and then in Mumbai so that both our families can actually attend as my grand ma is quite old and my sisters have big families now. Also it would be hard for his sisters to get the french visa and pay the ticket so we would do the Hindi wedding in Octber 2012 in Mumbai. I am a very persitent person, I am confident that we will get it done ....just a lot of hassle but still a year to go. I just want to get it right so we avoid last minute dramas! |

Hi Paname!!
Are you sure the "carte de séjour" is required to get the "certificat de coutume" ?? I called many times the indian embassy but they don't pick up my calls and when I wrote an email they answered to it without answering to my questions... So I can't get any kind of information from them.
Have a nice day !! |
