Good news everyone!
After months and months of battling and trying to get some sense out of anything, my husband (who is indian) has finally been issued a visa to come to France!
For those of you who don't know, I'm British and due to EU law, my spouse should be given a visa with a maximum delay of 2weeks, no need for extra documents and so on, and most importantly for FREE.
9 months later.... many thousands of rupees later, and a lot of stress he has been given his visa.
Once here in France, EU law states that as the spouse of an EU citizen, residing in a host EU country, he can obtain a carte de sejour long term and live and work here as easily as I can.
Will the French be as clear cut as this law? judging by the way they prolonged in every way possible the right of entry, i don't have high hopes! At least I have the law on ym side and once he's here we'll finally be able to build our communal life together.
For those of you in mixed relationships, about to embark on the tough ride of getting marriage certificates and visas, yes it is hard, it will really test both of you, but if you are determined and strong, you will get through it and then truly appreciate being together.
I only need to wait a couple of weeks and then all will be great |

hey congrats....
I know what a hassle getting a visa could be... but I think once your husband is here.. he should be able to work immediately. Does he speak french? If not he might have to sign up for those free mandatory french lessons, but i have a buddy of mine whose wife just came from laos last year. She took this course and she is not all that bad in french now.
also, I hope you fall under a sous-prefecture and not the main one in bordeaux because, those unending queues..... urgggggg

Hello,
could you please let me know what kinf of visa your husband asked for?
My husband is also going to apply for the same thing spouse visa. I was told that its going to be done easily if we have provided everything in time.
As we have got married just recently and done everything at the French consulate i dont think that it will take lots of time.
If you could suggest me anything I would be happy.
Thanks |

Hi Wannajok,
What nationality are you? I'm British and so the rules are different. In fact if you are an EU national resident in another EU state and want to apply for a visa or papers for an non eu member person it's very different. Until recently, you only had to ask for a simple tourist visa to visit an eu country (3month limit) with your spouse, which is all above board. Once in the country you then had to prove your (the EU national) residence in that country of course no carte deséjour because your EU, so proof of pay, rent slip etc etc and then apply for a carte de séjour at your local préfecture. I believe the rules have slightly chnged though and I suggest you look at this site: http://ec.europa.eu/youreurope/
They have all info on EU rules. If however you are French, I'm afraid my experience can't help you! Sorry
Good luck and please share your experience with everyone here to help them benefit too. |

I have a french nationality now. I am in India since few months for official work. I thought of going back to France and then my husband joins me there. He would like to pursue his post graduation in France. So thought of applying the spouse visa.
Otherwise I also thought of going to UK because its an English spoken country and it might be better for us. But the only thing is that in UK I must prove that I am staying on my own and self sufficient. Then only he can apply for visa. If you have any advice about it I would be thankful.
Thanks |
