| i think they r two different operations. french navy intervened in Ukranian ship hijack whereas Indian navy protected Indian commercial ship. in first case, french arrested pirates whereas Indian navy launched marine commandos by armed helicopters making pirates to flee. |

Yeah ... they are not of the exact same nature, of course. That's why I was on the line "Pirates' bids getting foiled".
But having said that, what surprised me a bit here, is why the Indians didn't try to neutralize the pirates (arresting, killing, etc.) instead of letting them fly. There must be some diplomatic issues here, it seems, that our navy can only act upto a certain extent.

u have already answered the question. we could not chase them since it is international water and we cannot operate. lot many more points r there but cant b discussed here. may b sometime in person. |

More news from the gulf
It seems that the Indian navy can operate even if the ship attacked is not Indian. Before saving the Indian merchant ship, they have saved another merchant vessel from Saudi Arabia. And now, they sink a pirate "mother ship".
And sinking a pirate ship mustn't be easy, since they would be heavily armed as well. See BBC report for more details.
That a great news, because they are not even a month into the sea, and this is Indian navy's third successful action against the pirates.

In their 4th successful attempt within the first month of their deployment, the Indian navy and Marcos have arrested 23 pirates, after foiling a hijack attempt of an Ethiopian merchant vessel.
Full reports are here and here.
The ship used during the operation was INS Mysore, a Delhi-class destroyer of the Indian Navy built in India.
Bravo guys. Proud of you.
