Pearls of wisdom

I want to start a thread on 'pearls of wisdom' gained during my early days (still continuing) and also by others, which might even sound foolish to people living here for some time, but meaningful, nonetheless, for newbies to France. Small mistakes and small wisdoms- about anything and everything. My first post in that will be about my mixie. Ha ha. So should I write those in the relevant existing threads? Like a certain 'what not to do' while buying train ticket, in the thread about trains and all?

Any ideas?
