I have no news about indian movies on French channels
But a Friend has just sent me this article from "The Hindu":
Cannes (PTI): 'Indian Summer', an annual film festival hosted by the Guimet Museum of Asian Arts in Paris, will mark its fifth year in September-October 2008 with a full-fledged celebration of "the stars of Bollywood".
"A total of 23 films will be screened over a period of two months and the package will include entries spanning over 60 years -- from the 1940s to the present day," Martine Armand, who has been curating the film festival since its inception, said.
She said: "The idea is to present the entire historical range -- from Mehboob Khan's 'Aan', starring Dilip Kumar to Yash Chopra's 'Veer-Zaara', featuring Shahrukh Khan. The festival will open with a screening of 'Guide', directed by Vijay Anand and starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman."
Among the other major films to be screened as part of the Indian Summer festival will be 'Jagte Raho', 'Bobby', 'Maya Memsaab', 'Devdas', 'Dil Se' and 'Raincoat'.
"The package," Armand announced, will lay a special emphasis on the films of Guru Dutt by screening 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand', 'Mr & Mrs 55', 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', 'Pyaasa' and 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam'. He has a huge following across France."
By the way, another indian is in Cannes...the film critic Anupama Chopra is member of the jury for the "Un certain regard" section:
Anupama Chopra, a noted film critic and author of best selling books, has been invited to be on the jury for the 'Un Certain Regard' section at the upcoming 61st Cannes Film Festival. This section screens about twenty features by young filmmakers and seasoned masters and is among the most prestigious sections at the festival.
The Un Certain Regard jury awards can also honor two other films besides the main prize winner. These prizes will be given at the closing ceremony on Saturday May 24, during which Robert de Niro will present the festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or.
Says Anupama, "This is a huge and unexpected honor. The Cannes Film Festival is the world's foremost cinema event. I am very proud to represent India and the Indian film industry in this space."
The 'Un Certain Regard' jury is headed by German filmmaker Fatih Akin. The main competition section is headed by actor-director Sean Penn.
