I did not need to give any authorisation letter to my parents. It was never asked for. They did have my original birth certificate with them, though.

You will need to submit the original at the City Hall...no question of submitting photocopies. You can keep a copy for yourself of course and they can be useful later for other stuff maybe but originals are taken in once you submit your file at the City Hall. You will have to get it translated in France first by a recognised translator ( traducteur assermenté).

Hi everyone,

This stumble was indeed very useful. I am to be married in the month of August. My fiancee is getting the publication des bans done. The marriage will take place in Goa - first the civil and then the church.

Can someone take me through the exact process? What next?

We have contacted the French Consulate but they are giving us information as and when we reach the stages... We would like to have like an overview, so we are prepared and the consulate just does the verification Smile

How long does the process take before I can join him in france?

[quote="Sourav"]Welcome to the community Mrs. Loly.

In our case, we got married in India, in a court of Delhi. You can visit India (check with the visa office which visa you need for a marriage), stay there for a few moths, see if things are working well between you and then go for a marriage.

For the marriage, you first have to apply in the local court of your boyfriend with necessary papers (check first what papers you will need), then wait for a month (in India, they keep the marriage notice in display for a month) and once everything is fine, register your marriage.

Once your marriage is registered in the court, go to the French embassy and get your "livre de famille". You will have to produce a translated copy of your marriage certificate for that, as well the translated copy of his birth certificate. Check with your embassy for further details.

He can then apply for a visa, and once in France, go to the prefecture for other paper works.

In all cases, you need to spend a few months in India.

There might be another way for him to come to France and then you guys get married here, but I don't know about that, check with your prefecture and if you get to know anything, thanks for updating us on this.

For learning french, tell him to start taking crash courses in alliance française of Delhi.

For job, once he is married to you, he will have all the right to do any job as per as qualifications, like any body else.

Cheers.
Hello dear Saurav,
thank you so much for creating this wonderful site.
I am an Indian and want to marry my French fiance.
I was married to a German girl before and gone through all the visa procedure and got 3 years residence permit in Germany, although the marriage did not work so I came back to India.
I found out about the divorce and a lawyer said I can register the divorce in Notary republic here in India and can get married again..
I want to ask
1. Is notary registered divorce valid or recognized by French authority
2. The lawyer said I can get married under special marriage act after notary divorce would be ok for French Embassy?
3.What is the procedure after getting married in India to apply for visa
4. Can I get married in France if I have a tourist visa? and would it be easier ?
Please shed some light on it.
Hope to get some answers Smile
Thank you Dhanyavad
Yugesh
