Hi friends
We were speaking last time at Lalit's place that the forum look must be improved. And that we need to build a website around the forum.
Well, I thought to see what you guys think here. A topic with your suggestions and tips on these matters would help the community to have a better website.
So, the questions:
1. Forum look: How the forum look can be improved friends. Your views please. I find the forum of Bonjour Paris pretty nice, clean and straight. Could you please share your views on this? You may also share links of other forums, if you know any that you find good looking.
2. Website: I thought we can have a few sections, with each section having it's own contents. Here is how I see this.
Activities
Cricket
City tour
Picnic
Socializing
Night life
Discussion
Forum
Chat
About Us
Our team
Our aim
Our photos
Our videos
Our members
Our groups
Practical Info
Search
Documents
FAQs
RSS
Contact
Miscellaneous
Link partners
Know India
Interviews
User CP
My profile
Scrapbook
Private message
I thought, our website can have such sections and related contents, which will stay as a left menu, and on the home page of the website, we may have a small description of our community, photos (rotating), videos (rotating), members' photos (rotating) and latest forum posts.
By rotating, I mean a different photo / video will come each time the home page will load.
Do you have other ideas here? May be you know some sites that you like, for the look and presentation from where we can take our inspiration!
3. The forum smilies: This is something I am thinking for sometime now. What do you think about the smilies? I am having a feeling that though they look nice, when we add them to our posts, they tend to break the display, adding extra space here and there. Do you think we can go on with this, or replace them with smaller more standard smilies.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers. _________________ Request | Rules

I would first like to say about smileys.....I feel our site has good smileys and it gives life to the mail.....
and I dont think it takes so much of space in the mail......most of our mails are funny and we need these smileys to express ourselves....
for the site...
Sourav, I think we should also add one birthday tab which will display 'Today's Birthday' ad we can wish the person..... getting so many wishes away from home...will make us happy....
and I found one site very cool and informative...it is defined as one of the best site in Time magazine..... we can take some points from here example here _________________ Brgds,

I agree with Sandeep about the smileys, they add character to our posts... Bday part seems cool too
for what you suggest, I find it a bit odd to have 'my profile' and 'pm' which are personal together with 'forum' and 'chat',na?
for " about us", don't you fear some categories might be a bit redundent?
our team??? cricket team???
our members, our groups...??
would this be on the homepage and thus the page we all land on as 'forum' would apart only in the 'forum part'???
I'm not sure i'm very clear
PS. where would all the topics about the different towns and activities go, for example? |

Great idea. I'm working on the birthday stuff now. Don't forget to add yours, now
Well, this was actually the discussion last time in lalit's place (last sunday). And JP and others told that we can have a website along with the forum. For me, the idea was there always. But it will take time, since this is a lot of work and I won't be able to start soon. May be in a couple of months ...
For "our team", actually we were discussing the other day to form a team of people who will look after things together, probably to form an association, but that's still a project as well.

Don't worry, your AO username SR41 leaves little space to guess.
For the team, yes there are a few moderators, but the idea is to be more proactive as a community, we need people to organize different activities, for example, see how Pankaj has taken charge of the cricket related activities spontaneously.
But where did you suggest my profile and pm should go? _________________ Request | Rules

got it all wrong!!! 41 is the number of the Loir et Cher where Blois is situated!!! You really need to work your french geography
...otherwise I would have chosen SR22 even if....this year.......

well I don't know precisely, but feels strange with more general and open to discussion topics....then maybe with 'our members' |

Well, conceptually link partner should be a page like this one where we can exchange links with other websites, who will put our links to a similar page of theirs. Most websites today have a link exchange page.
Interview ... well, probably we can develop a section where member's can take interview of interviews of important personalities around, but I'm just tossing with ideas here. _________________ Request | Rules

well, any member of this forum will be able to post an interview, I think. That would be simpler, isn't it? _________________ Request | Rules

that's not what I meant, where will your partners post things happening on their forums or things they want to share? |

what do you think? We can go on as discussed, probably, by making a separate section in the forum for the partners. _________________ Request | Rules
