Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone knows anything on how a French national can get a job in India. Kinds of jobs he / she can target, and the legal aspects of getting a job in India, for foreigners.

I thought of these fields -

# to work as a french teacher in alliance française and in french schools.
# to work as a french translator / coordinator for indian offshoring companies who are targeting the french market.
# to work in the bollywood sector where they can work to translate the subtitles of Indian movies to french.

Any additional information would be appreciated.
Best.

well, as far as translation for Bollywood films are concerned (would you imply they're needed Wink ), if you don't have the official qualifications of a translator, it seems really difficult. I tried contacting Eros and Yashraj for Europe (as a freelance translator, english to french for DVDs aiming at the European market), didn't even get an answer. Maybe contacting the companies in India would be more efficient.

For French schools, you first need qualifications to teach in France and then ask to be 'detached' in a french school in India (it's probably different for the Alliance Française)

Well, regarding the quality of translation for sub titles, I'm ashamed of the present work. Probably they are not aware of the problem here, since they can't check that themselves ...

Thanks for the input on "teaching French in a French school in India"

that's the pb with translations done on a computer, yet i'm not sure, it is not checked; I've often noticed that the first 10 minutes are ok, then it goes bersek, maybe some people somewhere are not doing their job properly and the consequence is..........

Last year my husband came to india to work as a project manager(in software). He had lots of hours free and so he decided to teach french at alliance francais----but they told that only indian nationality are eligible to teach. So i think the french nationals dont have a chance in alliance francais.

hello everybody, this is babloo from mumbai!

i am new to this forum and would like to throw some light on this thread. well as a matter of fact, i know several french individuals who are working in mumbai, in various fields. actually, there are around eight/ten french i know, who are working in a company outsourced by a tv channel called zee tv who are doing the translation for their serials (as well as films) in this organisation, the indian team does the transaltions hindi-english and the french team are assigned the task: english-french. apparently, there is a huge market for these serials in france and some parts of africa and it's canal plus (i guess) which is their main point of contact.

i also know a few french individuals who are/were working at alliance francais. they system there is slightly different. firstly, if a french individual wishes to be a teacher, he/she has to undergo a few months of formation. only then, are they given the task of conducting classes. there have also been trainees at the office of alliance francais, mumbai who do around eight/ten months of internship as a part of their curriculum in college.

i have also met various interns/employees from various establishments like calyon bank, societé géneral and few others who come to mumbai to work as a part of their course or to gain experience. there have also been several journalists who have been reporting for newspapers like Le Monde and Figaro who have stayed in mumbai. thus you see that there are several possiblities/areas where a french individual can work in india/mumbai.

me personally, i am studying at the alliance francais since almost three years and will soon have my diplome c1. i am also seeking an internship/job in france, preferably in media/communication (as i am a creative consultant with an advertising agency in mumbai) so if any of you have some suggestions in this regard, i would be grateful.. cheers!
